2025 Golf fo Fun

x
October 15 @ Gross National
A very cool 50-degree damp dreary breezy overcast day does not present ideal golf conditions, but the Bumwads persevered and did the job. One benefit was that no one was in front holding us up and no one behind pushing us. Mostly pars and a few bogeys. The elusive hole-in-one evaded us again...better luck next year.

An 80-degree day in October made for the perfect day to chase balls around the hilly course. The rules of engagement have been softening over time. We now tee off from the most forward tee box, formerly called the women's tee box. We just call it our tee box. And, we are very generous on improving the lie with-in a club's length, sometimes using some very long imaginary clubs. With that in mind, we played pretty good: 6 bogies, 8 pars and 4 birdies for a 2 over par coming into the clubhouse.

In Bumwad team events we usually don't highlight an individual's performance. However, today what RR did deserves recognition. In our team quest to shoot a hole-in-one before we retire from golf, RR came closer than any Bumwad yet. Today his drive ended up 4 feet from the pin on the 69 yard par-3 12th hole. He kept his composure and putted it in for a birdie. Well done RR.
September 17 @ U of M (1 of 2)
This is the last time playing the U of M course due to closure and sale by the University to raise money for their systemwide deficit. It is a sad situation. It stinks as much as having one's nose under RR's arm pit. The team celebrated the round on number 18 due to a long awaited successful putt by RR. Overall, they had an okay score, but not sub-par. The quest for the elusive hole-in-one continues.

One last chance to be with Goldy the Gopher
September 3 @ Timber Creek
The three Wads that played this cool, windy day with splashes of sun are seen here in the clubhouse adjusting their score...which is similar to improving one's lie while out on the course!
August 20 @ Como (1 of 2)
The Bumwad team du jour had a record setting round. The triple bogey they shot on the eighth hole is the first triple bogey in Bumwad historical record keeping memory. Most likely they'll be setting more records in future rounds!

Wish we could say that geese on the course caused our high score today, but in actuality they were just a fun distraction.
July 30 @ Brookview in Golden Valley
We're still gunning for that elusive hole-in-one. Today wasn't to be that day, but we did shoot an Eagle... something we have never done or at least if we have it was a long long time ago. Even with the Eagle, the team ended up three over par.

MSWad has an eagle eye (pardon the pun) for finding lost golf balls in the rough. On the 15th hole he found several including the pink one in the photo. DWad was the only team member willing to play the pink ball which he did on the 16th and 17th holes with surprising success. The photo above of the amazing ball was taken on the 18th tee box... unfortunately it's the last time that ball has been seen!
July 9 @ Meadowbrook
According to Johnny Wad, the odds of shooting a hole-in-one are 12,500 to one. The golfing Wads have made at least that many drives over the years... so they feel their time is near. Despite their enthusiasm, the elusive hole-in-one eluded them yet again this fine summer day.
June 11 @ U of M
It was a dark and dreary day this past week when the U of M announced that due to overall University budget shortfalls it has been decided to sell the 100 year old U of M golf course to raise money to pay basic U of M bills. Sad for U of M golfing students and alumni. The Wads have played here most every year. Fittingly, it was a dark and dreary day for golf. Even Goldy appreciated the use of an umbrella. The sad news and the light rain might be contributing factors in the score today. For the first time in recent memory the golfing Wads had a double bogey on one of the holes and no birdies to end nine holes at three over...dark and dreary indeed!
May 28 @ Meadowbrook
It was a misty kind of day so we just played nine, but nine was fine. After some dispute regarding the number of shots to count for the last hole there was consensus. Another good team effort yielded another overall good score that we can be proud of...eight pars and one bogey.
May 14th @ Gross
Surprisingly the three Wads pictured here put up a pretty good score. Two bogeys and the rest pars. Someone once said golf is 90% mental and the other 10% is also mental. These guys were mentally there today. Just think what they could do if they had a fourth player...they'd be contenders.  (Full disclosure, they only played nine holes)
April 30th @ Hiawatha
We kicked off the 2025 season by playing nine holes. Previously the Bumwad Golf motto was "18 or Nothing." But, we are men and we can be flexible. It was a cool but glorious day. In true Wad scramble style, each of the four players had the best shot at key times such that the group, shown here, shot one under. Just for the record they had two birdies, six pars, and one bogey.
