2023 Golf fo Fun

 2023 Golf for Fun

One would think that with most of us being retired it would be easy to schedule a round of golf. Not so! It turns out that it took until July 13 to play our first game of the season. Even though we don't get out often, it's fun to be together when we do. Since super long drives aren't our thing anymore, and never was for some of us, we now play from the gender neutral most forward tee box, which is still plenty far from the green.

September 15 @ Meadowbrook in St Louis Park
Our 50th Reunion golf day.
Johnny Wad flew in from Seattle to play. Due to his recent right shoulder replacement surgery he was limited to only helping during putting, but in golf, putting is where half the strokes are. To help the cause further he brought his brother Bob, who became the honorary Bob Wad for the day. So, two teams: one foursome and one three-and-a-half-some. The foursome was almost a threesome due to RRWad going to the wrong golf course. Eventually that got straightened out... it's a good thing because he contributed many "best" shots for his team. For the record, he even shot his very own par 3 on hole number two. Even though it was a wet start to the day both teams enjoyed the course. One team had more bogies than birdies and the other team had two more birdies than bogies.

August 31 @ Gross National
Beautiful summer day for doing anything outside. Golf was the choice for the five Wads pictured here. The course was in great shape despite the ongoing drought. They played well thru the first 12 holes with two birdies and only one bogey. But, Michael S Wadsworth had to leave then for another appointment for another of his packed days. That left the other four Wads to continue to try to uphold Bumwad honor, which they did. For the last six holes they got a birdie, three pars, and two bogeys to come into the clubhouse at par for the full 18! Way to go Bumwad teamwork!

August 17 @ Highland in St Paul
Fortunately the five of us pictured here were able able to play scramble style together as one group using three carts. Very windy day, which sometimes helped and sometimes didn't help with the golf ball. Apparently, there can be different ways of counting scores, especially when playing scramble for fun. One cart's score card had us even for the day and another card had us two over and the third cart didn't keep a score card. The main thing is that the five pictured here had a great time!

July 26 @ Brookview in Golden Valley
Wow, what a day! Had an early morning much needed rain storm. The course was in beautiful shape, but a little water soaked. We started mid morning to beat the worst heat of the day in which the heat index went well above 100 degrees in the afternoon. The same team that played so well at Hiawatha two weeks earlier had to play short handed... GWad was at his Northwoods retreat. As a result, our score wasn't quite as good, but still respectable. RusselWad, still recovering from hip surgery, met the team in the clubhouse for lunch. We hope to get him back in the golfing groove for the August 17th date.
DWad, who usually takes the photos, forgot his camera/phone at home, so he found the online picture above to serve as stand-ins golfing as Wads for the day. They actually look like they could be Wads!

July 13 @ Hiawatha
In the spirit of "scramble golf" we all contributed the best shot periodically such that we ended six under par and had no bogies. We think it's a Bumwad record score. We should play less often more often!

Feeling a little cocky after a lucky chip shot, DWad backdoors one into the cup!
